Sustainable Development Summit Successfully Concludes – Two Rankings Unveiled to Lead Industry’s New Direction in Sustainable Development

Shenzhen – December 4 Co-hosted by Alaya Consulting and the Organizing Committee of the Hong Kong ESG Reporting Awards, the Greater Bay Area Green Finance and Sustainable Development Summit cum 2025 ESG Excellent Disclosure Rankings Launch Event was successfully held in Shenzhen. As an annual flagship gathering focused on the green transition and high-quality development of the Greater Bay Area, this summit brought together elites from diverse sectors including government, industry, academia, research and finance. Centered on the theme “Building a New Framework for Bay Area Green Finance · Opening a New Chapter of Sustainable High-Quality Development”, it featured in-depth discussions on core topics such as ESG governance, green finance innovation, and AI-empowered sustainable development. Two authoritative rankings were released at the same time, setting a benchmark for sustainable development across the industry.

The summit garnered high attention and enthusiastic responses from all sectors. Participating organizations included listed companies, financial institutions, professional service firms, and relevant government entities, covering key sectors such as healthcare and pharmaceuticals, new energy, logistics, and technology. With a diverse array of sessions including keynote speeches, signing ceremonies, rankings releases, fireside chats, and case-sharing sessions, the summit provided a high-end platform for ideological exchanges and practical cooperation, demonstrating the Greater Bay Area’s profound foundations and innovative dynamism in green finance and sustainable development.

In his opening speech, Mr. Tony Wong, Founder of Alaya Consulting and the Hong Kong ESG Reporting Awards, stated, “As a national frontier for green development, the Greater Bay Area is emerging as a core hub for ESG practice and green finance innovation. The convening of this summit not only serves as a comprehensive review of the industry’s sustainable development achievements, but also builds a bridge for cross-sector collaboration and win-win cooperation, driving the in-depth transformation of ESG concepts from a ‘compliance requirement’ to a ‘value creation’ driver.”

During the summit, Mr. Wang Zhongmin, former Vice Chairman of the National Council for Social Security Fund and former President of Northwest University, delivered a keynote speech titled “When ESG Meets AI Through the Lens of First Principles”. He analyzed the underlying logic of the integration of ESG and AI technologies from a macro perspective, providing forward-looking ideological guidance for sustainable development. For his part, Lawyer Mao Tengyun, Presiding Judge of the Carbon Trading Arbitration Tribunal of Zhanjiang International Arbitration Court and Director of the Carbon Trading Legal Professional Committee at Guangdong Prometheus Law Firm, focused his presentation on “Compliance and Practical Exploration of Carbon Trading”. Drawing on the latest policies, regulations and practical cases, he offered professional legal references for enterprises’ green transition.

At the strategic cooperation signing session, the Shenzhen Institute of Financial Stability and Development and Alaya Consulting officially signed a cooperation agreement. The two parties will deepen collaboration in areas including green finance training, ESG consulting, and regional sustainable development research, so as to facilitate the interconnection and innovative development of the green finance system in the Greater Bay Area.

A key highlight of the summit was the rankings release session, where the 2025 Greater Bay Area ESG Excellent Disclosure Rankings and the 2025 AI-Enabled Sustainable Development Pioneer Rankings were officially unveiled.

Co-developed by Alaya Consulting in collaboration with Greater Bay Area experts, scholars, industry associations and independent judging panels, the two rankings went through multiple rounds of rigorous review. Ultimately, over 80 enterprises with outstanding performance in ESG disclosure transparency and green governance effectiveness were selected for the 2025 Greater Bay Area ESG Excellent Disclosure Rankings, while 7 enterprises that achieved breakthroughs in the innovative application of AI technologies made it to the 2025 AI-Enabled Sustainable Development Pioneer Rankings. These enterprises have set benchmarks for transparency, responsibility and innovation across the industry through their concrete actions.

The fireside chat emerged as the highlight of the summit for ideological exchanges. Mr. Tony Wong, Founder of Alaya Consulting, and Mr. Sunny Wong, ESG Manager of Pacific Basin Shipping Limited, engaged in an in-depth discussion centering on the theme “Trends in High-Quality Disclosure and International Mutual Recognition”.

Starting with the disclosure pressures faced by enterprises, the two sides explored the core connotations of “high-quality disclosure”, analyzed the practical challenges enterprises encounter in terms of data sources, cross-departmental collaboration and cost control, as well as the practical pathways to transform ESG disclosure from a mere “compliance formality” into a “language for business communication”. Against the backdrop of the global regulatory convergence trend following the introduction of ISSB standards, Mr. Sunny Wong shared the experience of Pacific Basin Shipping—a Hong Kong-listed company—in meeting regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions and achieving “one set of data, multi-jurisdiction application”. He also elaborated on the key areas of focus for international investors, such as carbon emission pathways, board governance and supply chain management.

In terms of technology-enabled disclosure, the two parties further discussed the application of digital tools in the integration of carbon emission accounting, operation management and information disclosure, as well as the balance between efficiency improvement brought by AI technology and information security. They also offered a forward-looking perspective on the possibility of “real-time disclosure” in the industry over the next five years. Additionally, the dialogue focused on expectations for improving the quality of ESG information disclosure in the Greater Bay Area and the breakthrough points for mutual recognition of standards between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, providing valuable insights for the development of the industry.

Subsequently, Mr. Wu Yijian, Vice President and Secretary to the Board of Sinopharm Group Co., Ltd. and Chairman of Sinopharm Accord Co., Ltd., and Ms. Wu Sha, Senior ESG Manager of Sunwoda Electronic Co., Ltd., respectively delivered case studies on corporate sustainable development practices. Their presentations showcased the innovative achievements of the healthcare and new energy sectors in carbon neutrality, green supply chain transition, and full-life-cycle management.

The successful convening of this summit has not only built an efficient bridge for communication and cooperation among government, industry, academia, research and financial sectors, but also injected new impetus into green finance and sustainable development in the Greater Bay Area through authoritative ranking guidance, in-depth ideological dialogues and outstanding case demonstrations. Going forward, the organizers will continue to leverage their platform advantages, promote cross-sector collaboration and innovative practices, and support the Greater Bay Area in making steady progress on the path of high-quality development and sustainable transition.
