2020 Hong Kong ESG Reporting Awards Winners Announced
Alaya Consulting is pleased to announce the winners of the Hong Kong ESG Reporting Awards (HERA) 2020. The annual awards recognize outstanding performance in ESG reporting and strive to build a community of business leaders for accelerating the development of corporate sustainability. The award winners have been selected from approximately 70 nominations that showcase excellence in ESG practices and disclosure. Over the past three years, cumulative donations to Greeners Action, a local registered charitable group promoting environmental sustainability, have reached HKD90,000.
Tony Wong, founder of Alaya Consulting and organizer of HERA, stated: “2020 is a pivotal year for ESG as it has become mainstream. Listed companies have awakened in the face of push and pull forces from regulators, institutional investors and peers. The quality of reports competing for HERA awards reflects that companies are moving beyond compliance and are trying meet the rising expectations of their stakeholders. Boards that have seen the value in ESG and have taken the lead in implementing ESG for reasons more than just compliance are now enjoying competitive advantages.”
The winners are decided by an independent panel of judges, comprising of experts from different backgrounds including the business community, non-governmental organizations and the academia. This year, HERA is honoured to have the following judges (in alphabetical order): Mr. Angus Ho, Executive Director of Greeners Action, Mr. Stephen Wong, Deputy Executive Director and Head of Public Policy Institute, Our Hong Kong Foundation, Dr. Robert Gale, Director of Next Level Sustainability and a GRI Certified Training Partner in Australia, and Dr. Yarime Masaru, Associate Professor of the Division of Public Policy at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
The judging panel encourages companies to further enhance reporting quality, especially with regard to governance, risk management, target-setting and transparency. Coping with the imminent risk from climate change, the panel recommends corporates facing significant physical and transition risks should strive to build resilience and future-proof their businesses by aligning with TCFD recommendations and setting science-based targets.
There are six categories of awards in total, Best ESG Report, Best Sustainability Report by a Non-listed Company, Best GRI Report, Excellence in ESG Governance, Excellence in Environmental Positive Impact and Excellence in Social Positive Impact.
